Functional Nutritional Psychiatry for Anxiety & Depression
Believe it or not the brain is connected to the body. Our general health has a major impact on the brain. Many people are suffering from anxiety and depression not knowing that there might be a connection with their lifestyle. Diet, sleep, movement, meditation, relaxation and spiritual expression have a huge impact on our state of mind. There is a connection between the gut and the brain that is linked by the vagus nerve and also the chemical signals from the bacteria in our intestines. For instance we need short chain fatty acids made from good bacteria to form a calming neurotransmitter called GABA in the brain. In anxious patients there is often a lack of the good bacteria, lack of the fatty acids and thus an imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Our treatments seek to reverse this situation bringing peace to where there was stress.
